Update to the earlier PM10 comparison, now covering five years (2018–2022) of hourly fine particulate matter readings from the Untere Grenzstraße station in Offenbach.

PM10 Silvester comparison 2018-2022

The 2022/23 New Year’s Eve clearly produced the highest PM10 spike in this five-year window – significantly above both 2018 and 2019. Possible explanation: after two years of fireworks bans (2020 and 2021), people went harder than usual. Weather conditions (temperature, wind) also play a role in how quickly particulate matter disperses.

The effect of the two ban years remains clearly visible as flat lines near the baseline.
